These 3-Ingredient Chocolate Coconut Balls are a simple, no-bake treat combining shredded coconut, condensed milk, and rich dark chocolate. Perfect for a quick sweet snack or dessert, they are easy to prepare and require minimal ingredients, making them an ideal homemade indulgence for any occasion.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded coconut (unsweetened, homemade preferred)
  • 1 cup condensed milk (or coconut condensed milk for a dairy-free option)

Coating

  • 3.5 oz dark chocolate (or chocolate chips for melting)

Instructions

  1. Mix Coconut and Condensed Milk: Pour the shredded coconut into a mixing bowl and combine it thoroughly with the condensed milk until it forms a thick, sticky mixture. Using your hands works best for even mixing, but a spoon or fork can also be used.
  2. Form the Balls: Using about 1-2 tablespoons of the mixture per piece, shape the mixture into small balls, ideally bite-sized (2-3 bites each), for easy serving.
  3. Chill the Coconut Balls: Place the formed balls on a lined baking sheet and refrigerate for 15-30 minutes to solidify. If you need them quickly, freeze for 5-10 minutes instead.
  4. Melt the Chocolate: While the balls are cooling, melt the dark chocolate using either short bursts in the microwave (20-30 seconds, stirring between each) or by employing a double boiler (bain marie) on the stovetop, stirring until smooth.
  5. Coat with Chocolate: Dip each chilled coconut ball into the melted chocolate using a spoon or fork, ensuring they are completely coated. Transfer them onto a wire rack lined with parchment paper to catch excess drips.
  6. Harden the Chocolate: Let the chocolate coating set at room temperature before placing the coated balls in the refrigerator until fully cooled and firm.
  7. Storage Instructions: Store the coconut balls in an airtight container. At room temperature, they will last up to 5 days if kept in a cool, dry place. Refrigerated, they can be preserved for up to 2 weeks. For longer storage, freeze them in freezer-safe containers or bags for up to 3 months.

Notes

  • You can use coconut condensed milk for a dairy-free variation.
  • Adjust the size of the balls according to your preference but keep them small for easier handling and eating.
  • If using microwave to melt chocolate, stir thoroughly between intervals to avoid burning.
  • Make sure the balls are chilled well before dipping in chocolate to prevent melting.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness and prevent moisture absorption.
