The dish features tender sirloin steak and fresh broccoli florets tossed in a savory, slightly sweet sauce made from soy, hoisin, and sesame oil, creating a perfect balance of taste and texture for a satisfying main course.

Ingredients

For the Sauce

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes

For the Stir Fry

  • 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until smooth and lump-free. Add the beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Whisk thoroughly to combine and set the sauce aside.
  2. Cook the ramen noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add the ramen noodles and cook for 2-3 minutes until just tender. Drain the noodles and rinse under cold water to stop cooking. Drizzle with 1 teaspoon sesame oil and toss to prevent sticking.
  3. Cook the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Season the sirloin steak strips with kosher salt and black pepper. Add the steak to the skillet and cook undisturbed for about 3 minutes to develop a good sear. Stir and continue cooking for an additional 2 minutes until the steak is cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and discard any accumulated grease.
  4. Steam the broccoli: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet, then add the broccoli florets. Pour in 1/2 cup water and cover the skillet. Steam the broccoli for 2 minutes until it turns bright green and is fork-tender but still crisp.
  5. Combine and finish cooking: Return the cooked steak to the skillet along with the drained ramen noodles. Stir the prepared sauce to recombine any settled cornstarch and pour it over the skillet ingredients. Using tongs, toss everything together and cook for another 1-2 minutes until all ingredients are coated in the sauce and warmed through.
  6. Serve: Immediately serve the stir fry garnished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Discard the ramen seasoning packets as they are not needed and can add unwanted flavors and sodium.
  • Do not overcook the broccoli to maintain its crisp texture and bright color.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to control the saltiness of the dish.
  • If preferred, substitute sirloin steak with flank steak or ribeye for different textures and flavors.
  • To make the dish spicier, increase the amount of cracked red pepper flakes or add a dash of sriracha sauce.
