Ingredients

Spice Mix

  • 1 ½ teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or mixed herbs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Potatoes

  • 2-3 medium potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for potatoes)

Beef and Cooking

  • 500 grams lean beef mince
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking beef)

Vegetables and Cheese

  • Lettuce, shredded (quantity to preference)
  • Cheese, dairy-free or regular (quantity to preference)
  • Pickle slices (quantity to preference)

Burger Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard (Dijon or yellow)
  • 1 teaspoon pickle juice (from the jar of pickles)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Prepare Spice Mix: In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano or mixed herbs, salt, and black pepper. Set this spice mix aside for seasoning both the potatoes and the beef.
  2. Prepare Potatoes: Wash and cut the potatoes into chip shapes. Pat them dry thoroughly using paper towels to ensure crispness. Place the cut potatoes in a large mixing bowl, drizzle with 1 tablespoon olive oil, then add half of the prepared spice mix. Toss well until all potato pieces are evenly coated with the oil and spices.
  3. Cook Potatoes: Arrange seasoned potatoes in a single layer on a baking tray. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 30 to 40 minutes, turning once halfway, until golden and crispy. Alternatively, air fry the potatoes at 200°C for about 20 minutes until crispy and golden.
  4. Cook Beef Mince: While potatoes cook, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil in a frying pan over high heat. Add the lean beef mince, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Brown the meat thoroughly, then sprinkle the remaining half of the spice mix over the beef. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the meat is darkened and all excess moisture has evaporated.
  5. Make Burger Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon smoked paprika. Mix well to incorporate and taste; adjust seasoning if necessary to preference.
  6. Assemble Burger Bowls: Once potatoes are cooked and crispy, distribute them evenly among four serving bowls. Fill the remaining space in each bowl with shredded lettuce. Top with the cooked, spiced beef mince, cheese slices or shreds, and pickle slices. Drizzle generously with the prepared burger sauce and serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can use sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes for a different flavor and added nutrition.
  • For a lower-carb option, substitute the potatoes with cauliflower florets seasoned and roasted similarly.
  • Cheese can be omitted or replaced with a plant-based alternative to keep the dish dairy-free.
  • The burger sauce can be customized by adding hot sauce or minced pickles for extra tang and heat.
  • Make sure to pat the potatoes dry to ensure they become crispy when baked or air fried.
  • Leftover burger components can be stored separately in airtight containers and assembled fresh before serving.
