This classic chocolate chip cookies recipe delivers chewy, soft-centered cookies with golden edges and plenty of melty chocolate chips. Perfectly balanced sweetness and rich buttery flavor make these cookies an all-time favorite treat that’s easy to prepare in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 medium eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Add-ins

  • 2 cups chocolate chips or chunks

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Make the cookie dough: In a large mixing bowl, use a mixer with a paddle attachment to cream together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes. Reduce the mixer speed and beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Avoid overmixing by switching to a spatula if needed.
  3. Fold in chocolate chips: Gently fold the chocolate chips into the dough by hand, ensuring even distribution without overworking the dough.
  4. Prepare for baking: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If the dough has been chilled, let it come to room temperature. Drop 2 to 3 tablespoon-sized spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat, spacing them apart to allow spreading.
  5. Bake the cookies: Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 12 minutes, until the edges are golden and the centers are set but still soft.
  6. Cool and serve: Remove the cookies from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before serving to ensure they set properly.

Notes

  • Room temperature eggs help the dough mix more evenly and improve texture.
  • Do not overmix the dough once the flour is added to avoid dense cookies.
  • Using parchment paper or silicone baking mats prevents sticking and promotes even baking.
  • For chewier cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
  • Adjust chocolate chip quantity based on personal preference.
