Ingredients
Butter Mixture
100g (7 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened, divided
1 large garlic clove, finely minced (approx. 1 tsp)
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp smoked paprika (substitute with regular paprika if needed)
1 tsp chili flakes / red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp cooking salt / kosher salt (use half if table salt)
Instructions
Sauté Garlic: In a small frying pan, melt 1 tablespoon (15g) of butter over medium heat until it starts foaming. Add the finely minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds while stirring until it turns very light golden. Remove the pan from heat and allow the garlic butter to cool for 3 minutes; the garlic will become more golden during this time.
Mix Ingredients: In a small mixing bowl, combine the remaining softened butter with Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, chili flakes, and salt. Pour the sautéed garlic butter over this mixture and stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well blended.
Serve: Serve your Cowboy Butter immediately with steak. It also pairs excellently with other cooked meats, seafood, and vegetables.
Usage Tips: For best results, use the butter softened so it melts nicely over hot steak. Alternatively, gently melt the butter to dip bites of steak, or roll the mixed butter into a log using cling wrap, refrigerate, then slice off coins as needed to melt on top of your dishes.
Notes
Use a knife to finely mince garlic rather than a garlic press for best texture.
Adjust salt quantity if using table salt instead of kosher salt as table salt is finer.
Can be stored refrigerated for up to a week if rolled into a log wrapped in cling wrap.
Smoked paprika adds a smoky depth, but regular paprika can be used as a substitute.
