This vibrant cranberry salsa recipe features fresh cranberries blended with cilantro, jalapeño, green onions, and citrus juices for a zesty and refreshing condiment. Perfectly balanced with a touch of sweetness and salt, this salsa is great as a dip, a spread, or a bright topping for meats and seafood.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 12 oz bag fresh cranberries, rinsed and drained (or thawed and drained frozen cranberries)
  • 1 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 medium jalapeño, seeded (leave some seeds for extra heat)
  • 23 green onions, roughly chopped
  • Juice of 1 orange (about ¼ cup)
  • Juice of 1 lime (about 24 Tablespoons)
  • 4 Tablespoons cane sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Rinse and drain the cranberries if using fresh, or thaw and drain if using frozen. Chop the cilantro, seed and chop the jalapeño, and roughly chop the green onions to prepare for blending.
  2. Pulse Ingredients: Add the cranberries, chopped cilantro, jalapeño, and green onions to a food processor. Pulse in short bursts to finely chop the ingredients while maintaining a chunky texture, avoiding pureeing.
  3. Combine and Season: Transfer the chopped mixture to a bowl. Stir in the cane sugar, orange juice, lime juice, and salt. Taste the salsa and adjust the sweetness, acidity, and salt level according to your preference.
  4. Chill: Cover the salsa and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This resting time allows the flavors to meld together and enhances the overall taste.
  5. Serve: Serve the cranberry salsa chilled as a dip with tortilla chips, spread over cream cheese with crackers, or as a bright topping for chicken, turkey, or fish dishes.

Notes

  • Keep some jalapeño seeds if you prefer a spicier salsa.
  • Adjust the sugar amount to balance the tartness of cranberries to your liking.
  • Make ahead and refrigerate for up to 2 days for best flavor.
  • This salsa is a great festive alternative to traditional tomato salsa.
