Ingredients

Pasta

  • 1 pound lasagna noodles

Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup plus 1 tablespoon flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
  • ½ tablespoon salt
  • ¼ tablespoon ground white pepper

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 (15 oz) container ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 ½ cups grated mozzarella cheese, divided
  • ½ cup chopped parsley

Seafood

  • 1 pound cooked shrimp, chopped if large
  • 1 pound crabmeat

Instructions

  1. Cook Pasta: Boil the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until tender. Drain and separate the noodles carefully to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and whisk continuously until smooth and bubbly to create a roux. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking nonstop to avoid lumps. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and stir in ½ cup grated parmesan cheese, salt, and white pepper.
  3. Make Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, minced garlic, 2 cups of grated mozzarella cheese, and chopped parsley. Stir thoroughly to blend all ingredients well.
  4. Prepare Seafood: In a separate bowl, mix together the chopped cooked shrimp and crabmeat evenly.
  5. Assemble Lasagna: Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Spread 1 cup of the prepared parmesan sauce evenly on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles side by side over the sauce. Layer with one-third of the ricotta mixture, then one-third of the seafood mixture. Repeat these layers two more times, ending with the remaining sauce, mozzarella cheese, and the rest of the parmesan cheese sprinkled evenly on top.
  6. Bake: Cover the assembled lasagna with foil and bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the top turns bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Rest: Allow the lasagna to rest for 20 minutes after baking to set the layers, making it easier to cut and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure the seafood is pre-cooked before adding to the lasagna to avoid overcooking during baking.
  • Chopping the shrimp into smaller pieces helps distribute seafood flavors evenly throughout.
  • Letting the lasagna rest post-baking is crucial for clean slices and better texture.
  • You may substitute crabmeat with canned or fresh crab as per availability.
  • For a spicier variation, consider adding red pepper flakes to the sauce or cheese mixture.
