Perfectly cooked on the stovetop or grilled, they are delicious served with traditional Mediterranean toppings like tzatziki sauce and crumbled feta cheese, making a satisfying meal that's ready in just 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • ¼ cup diced red onion
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¼ cup sun-dried tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 cup loosely packed baby spinach, roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

For Serving

  • Butter lettuce leaves
  • Tzatziki sauce
  • Crumbled feta cheese
  • Sliced onion
  • Sliced tomato
  • Sliced avocado

Instructions

  1. Make the burger patties: In a medium bowl, combine the ground chicken, diced red onion, minced garlic, finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes, roughly chopped baby spinach, fresh dill, dried oregano, kosher salt, and ground black pepper. Use your hands to mix all ingredients thoroughly. Divide the mixture evenly into four portions and shape each into a large patty.
  2. Cook the patties: Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Alternatively, you can cook the patties on a preheated grill until done, turning once.
  3. Assemble the chicken burger: Serve the cooked patties plain or build your burgers by layering each patty on butter lettuce leaves. Add tzatziki sauce, crumbled feta cheese, sliced onion, tomato, and avocado as desired to create a fresh, Mediterranean-style burger experience.

Notes

  • Ensure the chicken is fully cooked to a safe internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • Sun-dried tomatoes add a concentrated flavor; use oil-packed for more moisture or dry-packed but rehydrated if preferred.
  • Feel free to substitute fresh oregano if available for a brighter herb flavor.
  • These burgers can be grilled or cooked on the stovetop, depending on your preference.
  • Serve with gluten-free options like lettuce wraps to keep the recipe gluten free.
