These Greek Yogurt Protein Bagels are a quick and easy baked treat that combines the softness of Greek yogurt with the hearty texture of flour, creating a high-protein, flavorful bagel alternative. Perfect for breakfast or snacks, these bagels are lightly sweetened, topped with optional seeds or seasoning, and baked to a golden finish for a delicious homemade touch.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon sea salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups Greek yogurt (full fat recommended)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Optional Toppings

  • Everything bagel seasoning
  • Poppy seeds
  • Sesame seeds
  • Flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 375°F to get it ready for baking the bagels.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and sea salt until evenly combined.
  3. Add yogurt and form dough: Incorporate the Greek yogurt into the dry mix. The mixture will be crumbly or clumpy. Gather it into a ball on a lightly floured surface. If too dry, add a teaspoon of water or a bit more yogurt to achieve the right consistency.
  4. Knead and divide dough: Knead the dough about 10-15 times to bring it together, then split it into 6 equal portions. You can cut or pull the dough pieces apart.
  5. Shape bagels: Roll each piece into a rope roughly 1 inch or slightly less in diameter, then form into a circle and pinch the ends to seal. Place the formed bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Apply egg wash and toppings: Whisk the egg and brush the egg wash over the entire surface of each bagel, including the centers. Sprinkle with any optional toppings as desired.
  7. Bake: Bake the bagels for 19-23 minutes until they turn golden brown. Remove and allow to cool slightly before eating. For best taste, enjoy warm but avoid overcooking.

Notes

  • If the dough feels too dry, don’t hesitate to add a little water or extra Greek yogurt to help it come together smoothly.
  • Use full-fat Greek yogurt for a richer texture and better flavor.
  • Optional toppings like everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds add a nice crunch and extra taste.
  • Do not overbake to keep the bagels soft and tender.
  • These bagels can be stored in an airtight container for a day or two and warmed before serving.
