Ingredients

Brownie Batter

  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¾ cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 (1-oz) bottle green liquid food coloring
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅛ tsp salt

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 1 (8-oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 3 Tbsp butter, softened
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • ⅛ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9-inch square baking pan with aluminum foil, leaving 2 to 3 inches of foil overhanging to act as handles. Lightly grease the foil to prevent the brownies from sticking.
  2. Melt Chocolate and Butter: Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips and butter in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1½ to 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until the mixture is fully melted and smooth.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: Whisk the sugar into the melted chocolate and butter mixture. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking after each addition just until fully incorporated.
  4. Add Dry Ingredients and Color: Gently fold in the all-purpose flour, green liquid food coloring, baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt until the batter is well combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  5. Bake the Brownies: Bake in the preheated oven for 44 to 48 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack, about 2 hours.
  6. Prepare Frosting: While the brownies cool, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together on medium speed using an electric mixer until creamy and smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and salt, continuing to beat until fully incorporated and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Frost and Serve: Once the brownies are completely cooled, lift them out of the pan using the foil handles and remove the foil. Spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the top. Cut into 16 squares and garnish as desired before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, make sure the cream cheese and butter for the frosting are softened to room temperature before mixing.
  • You can substitute green gel food coloring if you prefer a more intense color without adding extra liquid.
  • Allow brownies to cool fully before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Room temperature brownies taste best; let refrigerated brownies sit out for 15-20 minutes before serving.
