Grinch Crack is a festive, sweet and salty holiday treat featuring salted crackers topped with a rich brown sugar toffee and coated with vibrant green candy melts and colorful sprinkles. This easy-to-make recipe combines buttery toffee baked over a crispy cracker base and finished with melted candy and sprinkles, perfect for holiday parties or gifting.

Ingredients

Base

  • 35-40 saltine crackers

Toffee

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

Topping

  • 2 cups light green candy melts (about 1 12-ounce bag)
  • Red heart sprinkles
  • Green sprinkles of choice

Instructions

  1. Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a 10 x 15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray it with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Arrange Crackers: Evenly arrange 35-40 saltine crackers in rows to cover the bottom of the prepared baking sheet. Set aside.
  3. Boil Toffee Mixture: In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine 1 cup unsalted butter and 1 cup packed brown sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture comes to a boil. Boil for 2-3 minutes, or until the temperature reaches between 270°F and 290°F (132°C and 143°C), creating a rich toffee.
  4. Bake Toffee Over Crackers: Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the arranged saltine crackers on the baking sheet. Use a heat-safe spatula to spread the toffee evenly across all crackers. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 5 minutes to set the toffee.
  5. Melt Candy Coating: Remove the pan from the oven. Immediately sprinkle 2 cups of light green candy melts evenly over the hot toffee layer. Let the pan sit for 2-3 minutes to allow the candy melts to soften and melt.
  6. Spread Candy and Decorate: Using a spatula, spread the melted candy evenly across the surface of the toffee. While still warm, sprinkle red heart sprinkles and green sprinkles of your choice generously on top to decorate and add texture.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the Grinch Crack to cool completely at room temperature until the candy hardens. Once set, break into pieces and serve or package for gifting.

Notes

  • Ensure the toffee reaches the proper temperature (270-290°F) for the right candy texture.
  • Use aluminum foil to line the pan for easy removal and cleanup.
  • You can substitute green candy melts with white candy melts colored with green food coloring if desired.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
  • This recipe is perfect for holiday parties and makes a great homemade gift.
