Quick and easy ground chicken tacos that are perfect for weeknight dinners. Ready in just 25 minutes, this flavorful recipe features seasoned ground chicken simmered to perfection and served with tortillas, shredded cheese, salsa, avocado, and your favorite taco toppings.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken or ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2-3 tablespoons taco seasoning

For Serving

  • Tortillas
  • Freshly shredded cheddar cheese
  • Freshly shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • Salsa
  • Avocado
  • Additional taco fixings of your choice

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil: Heat the olive oil in a large 12-inch cast iron skillet over medium-high heat to prepare for cooking the ground meat.
  2. Cook the chicken: Add the ground chicken to the skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes, breaking it up with the back of a wooden spoon to ensure even cooking. Stir frequently to avoid sticking.
  3. Add seasoning: Sprinkle the taco seasoning evenly over the meat and stir well to combine all the flavors. Continue cooking, breaking down any remaining chunks until the chicken is fully cooked with no pink remaining.
  4. Simmer with water: Pour in 2 tablespoons of water to deglaze the skillet and reduce heat to a simmer. Let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the meat to stay moist.
  5. Serve: Spoon the savory ground chicken onto warm tortillas and top with shredded cheddar, Monterey jack, salsa, avocado, and any other taco fixings you enjoy. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Feel free to swap ground chicken for ground turkey or ground beef depending on your preference.
  • The simmering step with water helps to deglaze the pan and keep the meat moist and flavorful.
