This homemade garlic bread recipe features a perfectly crispy crust and a rich, buttery garlic spread made with fresh garlic, parsley, and a hint of garlic powder. It's easy to prepare and perfect as a savory side for pasta dishes, soups, or salads.

Ingredients

Garlic Butter Spread

  • 6 Tbsp butter, room temperature
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

Bread

  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread (approx. 24" long)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the garlic butter mixture: In a bowl, combine the room-temperature butter, olive oil, minced garlic, garlic powder, chopped parsley, and salt. Stir until the mixture is relatively smooth; small lumps of butter are acceptable.
  2. Cut and prepare the bread: Slice the loaf in half lengthwise into two 12-inch pieces. Then, cut each piece open lengthwise so that the cut sides are facing up when placed on a baking sheet.
  3. Spread the garlic butter: Evenly spread the prepared garlic butter mixture over the open surfaces of the bread on the baking sheet.
  4. Bake the garlic bread: Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Bake the bread for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and crispy. Adjust baking time depending on your preference—less time for softer bread, more time for crispier bread.
  5. Serve: After baking, cut the bread into 2-inch sections and serve hot for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can substitute parsley with other fresh herbs like basil or oregano for different flavor profiles.
  • For a lower fat version, reduce the amount of butter or use a light butter spread.
  • To add a cheesy twist, sprinkle grated Parmesan or mozzarella on top before baking.
  • Make sure the butter is softened to room temperature for easy mixing.
  • Store leftover garlic bread in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to preserve crispiness.
