Ingredients

Chicken and Coating

  • ½ pound Chicken breast tenderloins
  • ¼ cup Cornstarch
  • ¼ cup All-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup Sparkling water
  • ¼ teaspoon Garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (preferably vegetable or canola oil)

Honey Butter Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Place the chicken breast tenderloins into a mixing bowl, ensuring they are ready for coating.
  2. Coat the chicken: Add the flour, cornstarch, sparkling water, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the bowl with the chicken. Toss everything together until the chicken pieces are evenly coated in a smooth batter.
  3. Heat the oil: Pour several inches of oil into a pot or high-sided skillet and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches frying temperature.
  4. Fry the chicken: Carefully place the coated chicken into the hot oil, frying until each piece turns golden brown and is cooked through, usually about 4-6 minutes depending on size.
  5. Drain the chicken: Remove the fried chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Prepare the honey butter sauce: While the chicken is frying, melt the butter in a separate skillet over medium heat.
  7. Add honey and soy sauce: Stir in the honey and soy sauce once the butter is fully melted, combining to form a smooth sauce.
  8. Simmer the sauce: Allow the mixture to simmer gently until it thickens slightly, enhancing its glaze-like consistency.
  9. Set the sauce aside: Remove the skillet from heat and set the sauce aside once it reaches the desired thickness.
  10. Toss chicken with sauce: Place the drained fried chicken into a mixing bowl, drizzle the honey butter sauce over the pieces, and toss gently to coat evenly.
  11. Serve: Serve immediately while hot for the best texture and flavor experience.

Notes

  • Use sparkling water in the batter to create a lighter, crispier coating.
  • Maintain oil temperature to avoid greasy chicken; if oil cools too much, the coating will absorb more oil.
  • Adjust seasoning in the batter to taste; you can add a bit of cayenne for a spicy kick.
  • Use fresh chicken tenderloins for the best results and uniform cooking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
