Ingredients

Marinade and Sauce

  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Salmon and Cooking

  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 4 (6-ounce) salmon fillets, patted dry with paper towels
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced into rounds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Honey-Garlic Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together honey, reduced-sodium soy sauce, fresh lemon juice, and crushed red pepper flakes until fully combined and set aside.
  2. Sear Salmon Fillets: Heat 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot but not smoking, place the salmon fillets skin side up in the skillet. Season each fillet generously with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Cook the salmon until the flesh is just heated through and a light sear forms, approximately 2 minutes.
  3. Flip and Add Flavor: Carefully flip the salmon fillets skin side down. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  4. Glaze and Cook: Pour the prepared honey-soy sauce mixture and add the lemon slices to the skillet. Frequently baste the salmon with the sauce while cooking until the sauce reduces by about one-third and becomes syrupy, which should take approximately 3 minutes. This will create a beautiful glaze coating the salmon.
  5. Serve: Remove the salmon fillets from the skillet and plate them with the lemon slices and extra glaze spooned over the top. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overcook the salmon to keep it moist and tender.
  • You can adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes to control the spice level.
  • If skin is undesired, you can remove it after cooking for easier eating.
  • Serve this salmon with steamed rice or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor in the glaze.
