This Honey Ginger Chicken Stir-Fry is a quick and flavorful dish that combines tender chicken breast with a sticky, sweet, and savory honey ginger sauce. Infused with fresh garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and toasted sesame oil, this recipe delivers a perfect balance of Asian-inspired flavors in just 30 minutes, ideal for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Sauce

  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Ginger, very finely diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1/3 cup Low-Sodium Soy Sauce (substitute Tamari for a gluten-free version)
  • 3 Tablespoons Ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons Toasted Sesame Oil
  • 1 teaspoon White Sesame Seeds, plus more for topping

Chicken and Stir-Fry

  • 1 1/2 pounds Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast
  • 2 Tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 3 Tablespoons Cooking Oil
  • 2 stalks Green Onions, chopped, plus more for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together garlic, ginger, honey, soy sauce, ketchup, sesame oil, and sesame seeds until well combined. Set this sauce mixture aside for later use.
  2. Coat the chicken: Toss the chicken breast pieces with cornstarch until they are evenly coated. This will help create a deliciously sticky texture when cooked.
  3. Brown the chicken: Heat cooking oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the coated chicken pieces and let them cook undisturbed for 3 to 5 minutes, allowing the bottom to brown nicely.
  4. Cook chicken with first portion of sauce: Stir the chicken to turn and pour in about 3 tablespoons of the prepared sauce (approximately a quarter of the total). Stir frequently as the chicken cooks, coating it until sticky and glossy.
  5. Simmer with remaining sauce: Add the remaining sauce to the pan, bring it to a simmer, and cook for 4 to 5 minutes until the sauce reduces slightly and the chicken is fully cooked through.
  6. Add green onions: Stir in the chopped green onions and cook for an additional minute to blend flavors.
  7. Serve: Plate the honey ginger chicken over rice, garnishing with additional sesame seeds and chopped green onions for extra flavor and crunch.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute low-sodium soy sauce with Tamari.
  • Finely dicing fresh ginger ensures it blends smoothly into the sauce, giving balanced flavor without overpowering bits.
  • You can adjust the level of sweetness or tanginess by adding more honey or ketchup to the sauce as preferred.
  • Serve with steamed jasmine rice or your favorite grain for a complete meal.
