A classic Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler featuring juicy fresh peaches nestled under a golden, buttery crust. This comforting dessert is baked until bubbly and served warm, perfect with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a delightful treat.

Ingredients

For the Cobbler

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cups fresh sliced peaches
  • 2 cups sugar (divided)
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

To Serve (optional)

  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to allow it to heat up while you prepare the cobbler components.
  2. Melt the Butter: Place the 1/2 cup of unsalted butter in an 8x8-inch baking dish and put it in the oven for 5 to 7 minutes until melted fully.
  3. Prepare Peaches: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the 4 cups of fresh sliced peaches with 1 cup of sugar. Stir gently and set aside to macerate while you prepare the batter.
  4. Make the Batter: In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 cup sugar, 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 3/4 cup milk, and 1/8 teaspoon salt until well blended.
  5. Assemble the Cobbler - Batter Layer: Carefully pour the batter mixture over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir or mix.
  6. Add Peaches: Spoon the sugar-coated peaches evenly over the batter layer, again without stirring.
  7. Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for approximately 1 hour, or until the crust has risen to the top and turns golden brown.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve the peach cobbler warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for added indulgence.

Notes

  • Use ripe, fresh peaches for the best flavor, or substitute with frozen peaches if out of season, thawed beforehand.
  • Do not stir the batter and peaches after layering; this creates the cobbler’s signature texture.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute the flour with a gluten-free baking mix.
  • Adjust sugar quantity based on the sweetness of your peaches.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated gently before serving.
