Ingredients

Brussels Sprouts

  • 0.75 - 1 lb Brussels sprouts

Cheese Paste

  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • ⅓ cup Parmesan cheese, plus more for topping and to thicken paste as needed
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black cracked pepper
  • ¼ tsp dried oregano

Garnish

  • 2 Tbsp fresh chives, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Brussels Sprouts: Preheat your oven to 400ºF. Clean the Brussels sprouts by peeling back any wilted or discolored outer leaves, then slice each sprout in half lengthwise. Set them aside while you prepare the cheese paste.
  2. Make the Cheese Paste: In a baking dish, combine the melted butter, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and dried oregano. Use a fork to mix these ingredients thoroughly until they form a thick, paste-like consistency. If the mixture seems too thin, add more Parmesan cheese to thicken—the thicker the paste, the crispier the crust will be.
  3. Coat Brussels Sprouts: Arrange the halved Brussels sprouts snugly into the cheesy paste in the baking dish, pressing them lightly to ensure they are well coated and in contact with the paste. Sprinkle additional Parmesan cheese evenly over the tops of the sprouts for extra crispiness.
  4. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Bake until the Parmesan cheese crust becomes golden brown and bubbly, and the Brussels sprouts develop slight charring on their exterior leaves for enhanced flavor.
  5. Finish and Serve: Remove the dish from the oven and allow the Brussels sprouts to cool slightly. This resting time helps the cheese crust adhere well to the sprouts. Finally, sprinkle the chopped fresh chives over the top before serving. Enjoy your crispy Parmesan Crusted Brussels sprouts as a delicious side dish!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, ensure the cheese paste is thick enough before coating the sprouts.
  • If you prefer a milder cheese flavor, reduce the amount of Parmesan or omit extra topping.
  • Gently peeling back the charred outer leaves before serving can reduce bitterness if desired.
  • Feel free to add a squeeze of lemon juice or a dash of red pepper flakes for additional zing.
  • Fresh chives add a nice color contrast and a mild onion flavor; substitute with green onions if unavailable.
