Delicious and easy-to-make Pizza Sliders featuring layers of savory Italian sausage, pepperoni, multiple cheeses, and a flavorful garlic-basil butter topping baked to golden perfection on soft Hawaiian rolls. Perfect for parties, game days, or family dinners.

Ingredients

Sausage Mixture

  • 1/2 Pound Italian sausage (ground)
  • 1 Cup pizza sauce
  • 1/4 Cup Parmesan cheese (freshly grated)

Rolls and Cheese

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls (halved lengthwise)
  • 2 Ounces provolone cheese (sliced)
  • 1/2 Pound pepperoni (sliced)
  • 4 Ounces mozzarella cheese (freshly shredded)
  • 1/4 Teaspoon dried oregano

Butter Topping

  • 1/2 Cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh basil (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Parmesan cheese (freshly grated)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F. Lightly spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking and set aside.
  2. Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground Italian sausage by breaking it up into small crumbles. Cook until no pink remains, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  3. Add Sauce and Cheese: Stir in the pizza sauce and 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese into the cooked sausage mixture. Remove the skillet from heat and set aside.
  4. Assemble the Sliders - Bottom Layer: Place the bottom halves of the Hawaiian rolls, cut side up, in the prepared baking dish in a single even layer.
  5. Layer Provolone Cheese: Arrange the sliced provolone cheese evenly over the rolls.
  6. Spread Sausage Mixture: Evenly spread the sausage, sauce, and Parmesan mixture over the provolone layer.
  7. Add Pepperoni and Mozzarella: Layer the sliced pepperoni over the sauce, then sprinkle the freshly shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Finally, sprinkle the dried oregano evenly across the mozzarella.
  8. Add Top Rolls: Place the top halves of the rolls over the cheese and pepperoni layer to create the sandwich sliders.
  9. Prepare Butter Topping: In a small bowl, combine the melted unsalted butter with finely chopped fresh basil, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
  10. Brush Butter Mixture: Generously brush the butter mixture all over the tops of the rolls. Ensure you use all the butter mixture to coat the bread thoroughly.
  11. Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish with nonstick foil or spray a piece of foil with cooking spray and tent it over the top to prevent sticking. Bake the sliders in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
  12. Add Parmesan and Finish Baking: Remove the foil and sprinkle 2 tablespoons of freshly grated Parmesan cheese over the tops of the rolls. Bake uncovered for an additional 5 minutes to brown the cheese and butter topping.
  13. Cool and Serve: Remove the sliders from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Cut along the seams of the rolls to separate individual sliders and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture or butter topping.
  • You can substitute Hawaiian rolls with other soft dinner rolls or slider buns if desired.
  • Make sure to drain the sausage well to avoid soggy sliders.
  • These sliders can be assembled ahead of time and baked just before serving.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven for best texture.
