Refreshing and naturally sweet Mango Water (Agua Fresca de Mango) is a vibrant Mexican-inspired beverage made from fresh mangoes, lime juice, and water. This easy-to-make drink is perfect for hot days, offering a tropical flavor with an optional touch of sweetener and fresh mint for garnish.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 fresh mangoes, pitted and peeled
  • 4 cups water
  • ½1 lime, juiced
  • 12 tbsp sweetener such as maple syrup or agave nectar (optional)
  • Fresh mint (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Blend Ingredients: In a blender, combine the 4 cups of water, peeled mangoes, and half of the lime juice. Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  2. Adjust Flavor: Taste the blended mango water and add more lime juice and sweetener if desired. Typically, about 2 tablespoons of maple syrup are used depending on the mangoes' sweetness. Blend again briefly to mix.
  3. Strain Mixture (Optional): For a smoother drink without pulp, pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh colander or sieve, pressing gently to extract all liquid. Discard the pulp or save for another use.
  4. Chill: Transfer the strained or unstrained mango agua fresca into a glass jar or pitcher and refrigerate until nicely chilled, ideally for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Serve: To serve, muddle some fresh mint or basil leaves at the bottom of glasses for added aroma. Add ice cubes, then pour the chilled mango water over. Garnish with additional mint if desired and enjoy the refreshing drink.

Notes

  • The sweetness of mangoes varies, so adjust sweetener to taste or omit if mangoes are very ripe.
  • Straining is optional; leaving pulp in provides more fiber and a heartier texture.
  • Fresh lime juice balances sweetness and adds brightness to the drink.
  • Mint or fresh basil adds a refreshing herbal note when served.
  • Best served cold on a hot day for maximum refreshment.
