This Slow Cooker Apple Dump Cake is an easy and delicious dessert that combines tender apple pie filling with a buttery, spiced cake topping. Prepared in just 10 minutes and cooked slowly to perfection in a slow cooker, it’s a perfect warm treat served with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Filling

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 3 (21-oz.) cans apple pie filling

Topping

  • 1 pkg. 2-layer-size yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup pecans, toasted and chopped
  • 1 tsp. apple pie spice

Optional

  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Add Filling: Coat the insert of a 6-quart oval slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking. Pour the apple pie filling evenly into the slow cooker insert.
  2. Make Topping: In a medium bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, toasted chopped pecans, and apple pie spice. Stir thoroughly until the cake mix is moistened and forms a crumbly mixture. Crumble this mixture over the top of the apple pie filling in the slow cooker, distributing it evenly.
  3. Cook and Serve: Place a clean kitchen towel or two layers of paper towels between the lid and the rim of the slow cooker insert to absorb steam and prevent condensation from dripping onto the cake. Cover with the lid. Cook on high heat for 2 and a half hours. Once finished cooking, carefully remove the insert from the slow cooker and let the cake stand uncovered for 15 minutes to set. Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream for a creamy contrast.

Notes

  • Using a kitchen towel between the lid and slow cooker rim helps prevent excess moisture on the topping.
  • For best results, use toasted pecans to enhance flavor and texture.
  • This dessert can be prepared in advance and kept warm in the slow cooker on a warm setting for up to an hour.
  • Ensure the slow cooker is large enough (6-quart recommended) to accommodate the dessert without overflow.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgence.
