Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth
  • 4 medium carrots, sliced
  • 3 medium potatoes, diced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 large bay leaf

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all ingredients and cut the beef stew meat into 1-inch pieces, slice the carrots, dice the potatoes, chop the onion and celery, and mince the garlic.
  2. Coat Beef: In a small bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, salt, and black pepper. Place the beef pieces in the slow cooker and pour the flour mixture over them, stirring well to coat all the meat evenly.
  3. Add Vegetables and Seasonings: Add the beef broth, sliced carrots, diced potatoes, chopped onion, chopped celery, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, minced garlic, and the bay leaf to the slow cooker. Stir gently to combine all ingredients.
  4. Cook the Stew: Cover the slow cooker and cook on Low for 8 to 12 hours or on High for 4 to 6 hours, until the beef is tender and can be easily cut with a spoon. Stir occasionally and check doneness to ensure proper cooking.
  5. Serve: Once cooked, remove the bay leaf and serve the beef stew hot for a warm and satisfying meal.

Notes

  • Adjust cooking times based on your slow cooker model; check tenderness to avoid overcooking.
  • You can add other root vegetables like parsnips or turnips for variation.
  • For a thicker stew, remove the lid during the last 30 minutes of cooking to allow some liquid to evaporate.
  • This stew freezes well for up to 3 months; cool completely before freezing.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
