Ingredients

Vanilla Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Caramel Brulée Topping

  • ½ cup white sugar

Latte

  • 1-2 tbsp caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1 shot espresso
  • 1 tbsp vanilla simple syrup (prepared above)
  • ½ cup milk (heated and frothed)
  • Whipped cream (for topping)
  • 1 tsp caramel Brulee candied bits (prepared above)

Instructions

  1. Make the Vanilla Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water and ½ cup white sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Add Vanilla Extract: Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Make the Caramel Brulée Topping: Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Place ½ cup white sugar into a small saucepan and cook over low-medium heat for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly until the sugar melts and turns a golden brown caramel color.
  4. Pour and Cool Caramel: Immediately pour the melted caramel evenly onto the prepared baking sheet, smoothing it out into a thin layer with the back of a spoon. Allow it to cool and harden for 5 minutes.
  5. Crush Caramel: Once hardened, carefully break or crush the caramel into small pieces to create the caramel brulée candied bits for topping.
  6. Prepare the Latte Base: In a mug, combine 1-2 tablespoons caramel sauce, 1 shot of freshly brewed espresso, and 1 tablespoon of the vanilla simple syrup you prepared earlier. Stir gently to combine.
  7. Heat and Froth Milk: Heat ½ cup milk until warm, then froth it using a frother or by vigorous whisking to create light foam.
  8. Assemble the Latte: Pour the frothed milk over the espresso mixture in the mug, holding back the foam with a spoon. Then spoon the foam on top to create a creamy layer.
  9. Finish and Serve: Top the latte with a generous amount of whipped cream, drizzle extra caramel sauce over the whipped cream, and sprinkle the caramel Brulée candied bits on top. Serve immediately and enjoy your indulgent homemade Starbucks Caramel Brulée Latte.

Notes

  • Use freshly brewed espresso for the best flavor.
  • Be careful when melting sugar—it can burn quickly.
  • The caramel topping can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container.
  • Adjust caramel sauce quantity to your preferred sweetness.
  • Use whole milk for creamier froth, or substitute with plant-based milk if desired.
