Ingredients

Herb Butter

  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter (softened)
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill (diced)
  • 3 garlic cloves (crushed)

Steak Sandwich

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 lb steak (thinly sliced into strips)
  • 1 tbsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 large yellow onion (sliced into half rings)
  • 4 slices Havarti cheese
  • 1 baguette (sliced lengthwise)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Herb Butter: Combine the softened unsalted butter with crushed garlic cloves and diced fresh dill. Mix thoroughly until the ingredients are evenly distributed, creating a smooth herb butter spread. Set it aside for later use.
  2. Slice Steak: Thinly slice the steak into strips. For easier slicing, you can freeze the steak for a few minutes beforehand to firm it up.
  3. Cook Steak: Preheat a skillet over high heat and add oil to coat the surface. Once hot, add the sliced steak, seasoning it generously with salt. Cook the beef until it is just golden brown, ensuring it stays tender. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Sauté Onions: In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
  5. Assemble Sandwich: Slice the baguette lengthwise and spread the prepared herb butter evenly on both sides of the bread. Layer the cooked steak strips evenly across the bottom half, followed by the sautéed onions. Top everything with slices of Havarti cheese.
  6. Broil Sandwich: Keep the sandwich open-faced and place it under a broiler for about 2 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  7. Serve: Serve the sandwich immediately while warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Freezing the steak slightly before slicing makes it easier to cut thin, even strips.
  • You can adjust the amount of salt according to your taste preferences.
  • Use a high-quality baguette for the best texture and flavor.
  • Broil the sandwich cautiously to avoid burning the bread or cheese.
  • Leftover herb butter can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
